Sr. Beata's vocation story
My vocation's journey began in God's heart. "Before you were in your mother's womb I consecrated you." (Jeremiah 1:5) The real significance of this passage only became clear to me little by little.
When I was born I almost died. My mom had twins (twin pregnancies can be very risky!) As a premature twin I ended up having many health issues. But God had a different plan. I grew up in a Catholic family but I never took my faith seriously until my junior year in high school. Even though first thoughts of becoming a sister came to me when I was 13, I was always putting it off. I knew my parents would never fully accept my vocation. But then the desire to follow Jesus in religious life was becoming stronger.
When I was just trying to give some meaning to my life, a friend of mine asked me, “Would you like to visit a convent with me?” I whispered, “Yes, I would love to,” and pondered the thought, “Maybe this is what I’m really looking for.”
After attending to a few discernment meetings with the Sisters, Jesus began to whisper His love notes. I felt this is where He wants me to be. The silence of the convent spoke to me deeply. The Sisters radiated joy. So the journey of my vocation continued with new signs as I was discerning. I started to pray more, attend daily Mass, or going for Adoration (i was always hiding it before my mom!). And then, right before the prom i met Luke (he thought it was my twin sister). We started dating. My heart was happy and yet so confused. I prayed, I cried. I didn’t know what God wanted from me anymore. But the more I prayed, the more I understood that my life was meant to be for God. So I decided to broke up with Luke. It wasn’t easy! The only thing he said was “I want you to be happy. If you are, I am too.” (Luke was God’s gift to me. Our relationship helped me to receive God’s love and discern my vocation more clearly). So I entered the convent. I said yes to His call. And I could have never been happier!
I am very grateful for the gift of my religious vocation. It's still such a mystery to me. Very humbling to know Jesus has chosen me who is so weak & in need of His grace 24/7. Don’t be afraid to say yes!
